IEP’s newest surgical/clinical/community development team, Team Humanity, did a stellar job in Patzún last week.
This new team completed 80 successful surgeries, saw 288 patients in clinic and installed stoves and water filters in 18 homes.
Team Humanity’s clinical and surgical teams showed amazing teamwork. One patient came into clinic with an enormous and extremely painful abscess. The surgical team was called in to consult and performed surgery — relieving the pain and saving her from a potentially life threatening infection. The patient was so very grateful. The next day she created a beautiful floral arrangement and sent her daughter to present it to the team.
Of course no IEP trip is complete without a visit to everyone’s favorite place — Escuela El Molino. Team Humanity delivered laptop computers to all of the teachers (thank you Luis Barrundia, Datum Guatemala and Murad Auctions), initiated the English language program, and trained teachers to use technology in the classroom. On a less serious note, there was a seriously competitive cake decorating session.
